Twelve Capaldis of Christmas

Look at this face and memorize it.

Who is that and why is he so important that I'm dedicating my first blog post to him? This man is Peter Capaldi and he is the next Doctor. Doctor Who? Exactly. (Ok, I'll stop now!) To those of you who watch the soon turning 50 year old show Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi was announced last night, early morning, afternoon--whatever timezone you were--as the next Doctor to replace Matt Smith! It seems the choice (or lack of need to have to choose according to recent interviews with head writer Steven Moffat) stirred a lot of opinions, many that I see when I look into my Jenna Louise Coleman tracked tags on tumblr.

Many, like myself, are thrilled of Capaldi as replacement. Not only is he a fine silver fox (especially with his glasses which I hope the new Doctor wears), but he's a brilliant talent. I admit, I've only seen him in BBC's The Hour, but if he could pull my heart strings with his character as Randall Brown, he will do an amazing job as the 1000 year old timelord. And I mean, doesn't it also help that he's been a fan of the show since he was younger? The last actor that took on the role of the Doctor and was an avid fan was David Tennant and people still admire and relish the talent they saw during Ten's era! So, naturally, I expect a brilliant performance coming this Christmas and the next series to come!

With those two cents of cheery applause, I just came across an article that made me face palm all the way to the North Pole. Apparently, BBC America executives are discontent with the "older" direction that the show is taking in terms of casting. Like many, they were hoping for a younger Doctor to reel in a younger audience, but Capaldi has caused them to step on the brake pads and make a reverse.

And though I'm not sure how credible and accurate this source information is, America is doing what it does best and taking the show and remaking it here. Doctor Who: America. Is anyone having that one Community episode play in their heads right now with Pierce demanding the next companion in Inspector Spacetime to be sexually objectified? Yeah, looks like there is truth in television! I'm crossing my fingers to have this Doctor Who American remake flop at the pitch before it gets anywhere to be quite honest.

To remake Doctor Who will be equivalent to remaking the U.S. government where the President is King. It ain't gonna work, so please don't even try.

If you want to check out the article, you can read it here! Again, I'm not sure how credible this site is, but it definitely caught my attention.

What do you think? Is Capaldi the right choice? How successful do you think BBC America's Doctor Who remake pitch is going to be?
